Line Items & Sections

Line items are where you spend most of your time in Jobkore, and the rules about what your client can see are decided here rather than anywhere else. This covers the editor itself — the estimate and invoice articles cover the documents around it.

#What a Line Item Holds

Beyond the description and the numbers, each line carries three optional attachments, reached from the line itself: Add notes, Add image, and Sub this out.

What is private, by construction rather than by setting:

• Cost price and markup percentage — never serialized to a client, whatever your column settings say. The client sees the resulting rate.
• The sub tag — which subcontractor is doing a line, and what you agreed to pay them, never reaches a document, PDF or share link.
• Allowance actuals — the budgeted and actual amounts on an allowance ride with the rate column, so hiding the rate hides them too — the budget cannot leak the price back under another name.

#Pricing a Line

A line's rate can be typed directly, or built from a cost and a markup percentage — the rate calculates from the two. Markup is rolled into the rate on the finished document and never shown to the client as a separate figure.

Each line has its own taxable toggle, so a document can mix taxable materials with non-taxable labor and the tax still comes out right.

New lines pre-fill from your Default Rate in Settings > Business, and catalog items bring their own saved rate, markup and unit with them.

#Sections

Sections group lines under a heading with their own subtotal — by room, by phase, by trade, however the job reads. Add Section creates one, and a section with no name shows as Untitled Section until you name it.

Deleting a section asks what you want to happen to the lines inside it, and the choice is real:

• Keep Line Items — the heading goes, the work stays on the document.
• Delete All — the section and everything in it.

That prompt exists because "delete this grouping" and "delete this scope" are very different intentions and the app cannot tell which one you meant.

#Reordering and Editing

Lines can be dragged to reorder, within a section or between sections. On a phone the editor uses a distinct layout: a drag handle for moving, and tap to expand a line for editing rather than editing it in place.

Like everywhere else in Jobkore, there is no Save button — the document saves as you work. See Troubleshooting if that is not what you expected.

#Adding Several at Once

Add from Catalog opens the picker: search by name or description, filter by type, tick what you want, set quantities, and add them all in one go. Items land in the section you opened the picker from. Full detail in Catalog.

#Allowances

An allowance is a first-class line type, not a naming convention. It carries a budgeted amount and an actual amount, so a placeholder for a fixture the client has not chosen yet can be tracked against what it really cost, instead of being a line you remember to fix later.

Hank creates allowances when your notes say a material is TBD or client-to-pick, and he sets the budget figure when he does — you adjust it.
